Who is responsible
LeaveMax is made by Richard Wallace, based in the United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK GDPR, Richard Wallace is the data controller for this app. You can get in touch through the contact form at rsw.io.
The short version
- There is no account, no sign up and no server that belongs to us.
- Everything you enter — your allowance, leave year, nation, working days, company days and planned breaks — is stored on your device only. We never receive it and we cannot see it.
- The app fetches the public gov.uk bank holiday list. That request sends no information about you.
- Google's advertising SDK collects data to show adverts. In the UK and the EEA it only does so after you agree in the consent form, and any tracking across other companies' apps also needs your permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt.
- Buying Remove Ads stops the adverts, and the data collection that comes with them, for good.
What stays on your device
All of the following is held in LeaveMax's own storage on your iPhone, in a container shared with the LeaveMax widget so the widget can show your countdown. It is never transmitted anywhere:
- Your annual leave allowance, leave year start month, UK nation and working days.
- Company days you add, and whether each is a free day off or forced shutdown leave.
- Breaks you plan, including their names and dates.
- App settings such as appearance, reminder timing and whether you have bought Remove Ads.
Deleting the app removes all of it. Because we never hold a copy, there is nothing for us to delete on our side, and nothing for us to hand over if we were asked.
What leaves your device
The gov.uk bank holiday feed
On launch, LeaveMax requests www.gov.uk/bank-holidays.json, the public list of UK bank holidays. The request contains no information about you or your leave. GOV.UK operates that service and will keep its own standard server logs, which is outside our control. If the request fails, LeaveMax carries on using the copy bundled with the app.
Google AdMob
LeaveMax shows a single banner advert, served by Google AdMob. To do this, Google's Mobile Ads SDK collects the following from your device. It is used for third party advertising, is not linked to your identity by us, and is used to track you across other companies' apps and websites only where you have allowed it:
- Device identifier — Apple's advertising identifier.
- Coarse location — an approximate area, not a precise position.
- Product interaction — advert impressions and taps, used for advertising and for Google's own analytics.
- Advertising data — which adverts were shown.
Google is an independent controller of this data. How it uses the data is covered by Google's Privacy Policy and its business privacy terms. We receive only aggregate earnings figures from Google, never anything that identifies you.
Crash reports
If the app crashes, Apple may send us a crash report through App Store Connect. Apple only does this if you have agreed to share analytics with Apple in your iOS settings. Crash reports are used to fix faults, contain no personal information and are not used to track you.
Buying Remove Ads
The Remove Ads purchase is handled entirely by Apple. Your payment details go to Apple, never to us. We are told only that the purchase exists on your Apple Account, which is how restoring it on another device works.
Your choices
- Tracking. If you were asked to allow tracking and want to change your answer, go to Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking on your iPhone.
- Advert consent. In the UK and the EEA you are shown Google's consent form before any adverts load. Declining means you see non personalised adverts instead.
- No adverts at all. The one off Remove Ads purchase stops the advertising SDK from running.
- Notifications and calendar. Both are optional and asked for only when you use the feature. Notifications are created and delivered on your device. Calendar access is write only: LeaveMax can add an event when you ask it to, and can never read, change or delete anything in your calendar.
Legal basis and your rights
Where advertising data is collected, we rely on your consent, given through the consent form and Apple's tracking prompt. You can withdraw it at any time using the choices above.
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and to data portability. Because your leave data never reaches us, requests about it are answered by the app itself: the data is on your device, under your control, and deleting the app erases it. For advertising data held by Google, exercise your rights directly with Google.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
LeaveMax is for people planning annual leave from work and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with an updated date at the top. Material changes affecting how your data is handled will also be noted in the app's release notes.
